AMAZOn EC2 Tools

| | | |

We've got another section with S3 tools . This should be with tools related to Amazon EC2 (elastic compute cloud). The official amazon list is here

So, free tools:

  • EC2 AMI Tools "are command-line utilities to help bundle an Amazon Machine Image (AMI), create an AMI from an existing machine or installed volume, and upload a bundled AMI to Amazon S"
  • EC2 Command-Line Tools "serve as the client interface to the Amazon EC2 web service. Use these tools to register and launch instances, manipulate security groups, and more"
  • EC2 Firefox Extension "is a Mozilla Firefox extension for interacting with Amazon EC2" .
I'm using this as it's really simple to set up and access from anyware. The command line tools provided by amazon are the really powerful ones but they are hard to setup and it's time consuming when compared to this extension. Basic control is performed allowing you to stop, start instances.

  • EC2 EC2 Client in PHP "is a simple, light-weight client app for managing Amazon EC2 images, instances, and key-pairs"

    Commercial tools:

  • Rightscale is your easy to use portal to Amazon’s Web Services, in particular the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). It provides a point-and-click interface to EC2 instances and images as well as an S3 browser. AWS-Console helps keep tabs on running instances–a chore that can be less friendly through the stock command-line tools. And many frequent tasks, such as opening an SSH console, bundling up an instance, backing up you database to S3, are just a single click away.
